Privacy Policy

In short: Fold stores all your data on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal information on our servers. We have no servers. Your data is yours.
1. Who We Are
Fold is a family calendar and organizer app developed by Nadir Aktan ("we," "us," or "our"). Fold is available on iOS (iPhone) and watchOS (Apple Watch). This Privacy Policy explains how Fold handles your information when you use our app.
2. Our Privacy Principles
- Local-first: Your data lives on your device and in your iCloud account
- No third-party servers: We do not operate backend servers or databases
- No tracking: We do not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking pixels
- No data sales: We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information
- Minimal permissions: We only request device permissions that are essential to app functionality
3. Data You Create in Fold
When you use Fold, you may create the following types of content:

All of this data is stored locally on your device using Core Data and synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit framework. We never have access to this data.
4. iCloud Sync & Household Sharing
Private Data
By default, your data syncs between your own Apple devices through your private iCloud database. This sync is handled entirely by Apple's CloudKit infrastructure and is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.
Shared Household Data (Premium)
If you subscribe to Fold Premium and create a shared household, you can invite other people to join your household using Apple's CloudKit sharing (CKShare). When you share a household:
- Shared data (events, tasks, grocery lists, chat messages, etc.) becomes accessible to all household members
- Sharing is managed through Apple's iCloud sharing infrastructure — we do not facilitate or intermediate this sharing
- You (the household owner) control who can join and can remove members at any time
- Household members can leave at any time
5. Data We Do NOT Collect
To be explicit, Fold does not collect:
- Your name, email address, or Apple ID
- Your location or GPS data
- Your contacts, photos, or files (beyond what you explicitly add to the app)
- Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints
- Usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioral data
- Any data for advertising or marketing purposes
6. Apple Watch
Fold includes an Apple Watch companion app (Premium feature). The Watch app communicates with the iPhone app using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework to sync events, tasks, and grocery lists. This communication happens locally between your paired devices — no data is sent to external servers.
7. Notifications
Fold may send local notifications for event reminders, task due dates, and other time-sensitive alerts. These notifications are generated entirely on your device. We do not use push notification servers or collect notification tokens.
8. Subscriptions & Payments
Fold offers optional premium subscriptions (weekly, monthly, and yearly) managed entirely through Apple's App Store and StoreKit framework. We:
- Do not process payments directly — all transactions go through Apple
- Do not have access to your payment method, credit card number, or billing address
- Only receive a cryptographic receipt from Apple confirming whether you have an active subscription
- Do not store subscription receipts on any server
9. Device Permissions
Fold may request the following device permissions, all of which are optional:

You can revoke any permission at any time through your device's Settings app. The app will continue to function with reduced functionality.
10. Third-Party Services
Fold uses the following Apple services:
- iCloud (CloudKit): For data storage and sync. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- App Store (StoreKit): For subscription management. Governed by Apple's App Store terms.
- WatchConnectivity: For iPhone-Watch communication. Local only.
Fold does not integrate any third-party analytics (e.g., Firebase, Mixpanel), advertising networks, social media SDKs, or crash reporting tools (e.g., Crashlytics, Sentry).
11. Data Retention & Deletion
Since all data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account, you have full control over your data at all times:
- Delete individual items: Delete any event, task, grocery item, message, or other content within the app
- Delete a household: Removes all associated data for all members
- Leave a household: Removes your access to shared data
- Delete the app: Removes all local data from your device
- Manage iCloud storage: Delete synced Fold data through Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage on your device
We do not retain any of your data because we never had access to it in the first place.
12. Children's Privacy
Fold is designed as a family app and may be used by household members of all ages, including children under 13. Because Fold does not collect any personal information from any user (all data stays in iCloud), we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations by design.
Children should use the app under parental guidance. Parents can manage their child's access by controlling household membership.
13. International Users
Fold is available worldwide. Since we do not collect or process personal data on our servers, GDPR, CCPA, and similar data protection regulations are satisfied by design — your data never leaves your device and your iCloud account, both of which are controlled entirely by you and governed by Apple's privacy policies.
14. Security
Your data security is ensured through:
- Apple's CloudKit encryption: Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest on Apple's servers
- Device-level security: Data on your device is protected by iOS encryption and your device passcode/biometrics
- No attack surface: Since we don't operate servers, there is no server to breach
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. When we make changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
- For significant changes, we may notify you through the app
- Continued use of Fold after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
